Happy 4th of July

My husband found this marker a few months ago entirely by chance as he wandered through the streets of Paris' St. Germain District. The plaque is located at 56 Rue Jacob near the intersection where Jacob becomes Rue de L'Universite.

For those of my readers who don't read French, the marker states:

In this Building
Jadis Hotel of York
The 3rd of September, 1783
David Hartley,
In the Name of the King of England,
Benjamin Franklin,
John Jay, John Adams
in the Name of the United States of America
Signed the Final Treaty of Peace
Recognizing the Independence
of the United States

As we go about our holiday plans with family and friends, let's all take a moment to remember that our country's Founders fought a long and very hard war against a despotic government that began July 4th 1776 and formally ended a little more than 7 years later.

Again, Happy Independence Day to All!

  2. Hello Francine,

We've had an interesting relationship with France, and their gift and symbol of freedom will always bind our friendship with them.

The war to fight for and preserve our freedom will never end, especially here through our own ballot boxes ... it is when people become complacent and too trusting in their governments that rights and freedom are at risk...

Happy 4th of July to you! ~Terri

  5. What an amazing thing to happen upon & see. So appropriate to celebrate this 4th of July. I think we all need a reminder of what we truly are celebrating on that day. Thank you for posting & I do hope you all had a marvelous day.

P.S.- I was going through old magazines & opened the April/May 09' issue of Western Interiors and there you were. What a terrific write up and was so honored to know you if only via the internet ~
